Facade rebuild on an early '60sbuilding, building listed as the first skyscraper built in the city, the existing facades were clad in extensive areas of ceramic tiles which over time had become partially detached and needed to be replaced.
The design challenge for the implementation of the intervention has been the need (dictated by existing urban constraints) to keep the design and aesthetic of the facade as similar as possible to the original , while using innovative materials from the viewpoint of thermal insulation performance, as required by the client.
Given the impossibility of using a traditional external thermal cladding because of existing constraints , we opted for the creation of a ventilated facade with a retractable support structure and stone cladding which was cut in factory and placed in such a way so as to replicate the design of the existing facade .
Our aim to provide the client with the greatest possible monetary savings has resulted in the need to separate the various processes by procuring several companies specialized in construction works , supply and installation of ventilated facades , facade cladding of the supply and delivery of the glass railings .
This design choice , in our opinion a winner, allowed our office to bring out its abilities in solving the following problems:
